Job DescriptionThis position can be based in Glendale, CA or Mentor, OHThis person is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Law Department, reporting to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel. The person in this role provides critical infrastructure, enabling the department to achieve its objectives. The four primary functions for which this person is responsible are Technology, Finance, Communications and Administration.Essential Responsibilities:Manages department personnel to ensure that workflow is aligned to priorities and identify solutions to increase efficiency and effectivenessDevelops the strategy for the delivery of global IT solutions to the department; works with IT to select and implement applications; ensures systems are used consistently and operating successfullyLeads department intranet strategy and knowledge management platform, including the reuse of data, proper document management and creation of self-help toolsDevelops and implements the department's global communications plan; ensures communications support department's objectives; measures effectiveness and relevanceIdentifies, drives and tracks department metrics, as well as cross-functional initiativesResponsible for legal operations benchmarking initiatives, including spend analysis and third party surveysPlans and manages staff meetings (developing agenda with GC); takes notes, documents and follows up on action items between meetings; proactively looks for opportunities to eliminate duplication and share best practicesManages department's linkages with other corporate functions, helping to implement corporate initiativesManages relationships with law firms and other third party vendors, including executing RFPs, structuring fees and managing Alternative Legal Service ProvidersLiaises with Finance and Accounting functions to establish budgets and complete forecasts, reporting on spending to General Counsel and StaffManages office administration and the support infrastructure for departmentPlans Department activities and team building eventsOther Responsibilities:Establishes or modifies department policiesManages relationships with recruiters and placement agencies, including contract negotiations and renewalsActs as liaison with Facilities and performs space managementPerforms special projects and responsibilities as assigned by the General Counsel and Law leadership teamPerforms general management duties, performance appraisals, promotions, and terminations. Responsible for developing staff, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, and meeting completion datesQualificationsSkills / Experience required:Bachelor's degree requiredAt least 6+ years of recent experience in a comparable role with progressively increasing responsibilities and accomplishmentsExpertise with process design and leading changeExperience working in a fast paced, complex organizationExcellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skillsTrack record of working effectively with executivesCapacity to think strategically, proactively identify issues and develop sustainable solutionsAbility to handle multiple assignments and manage major projects to successful completionAbility to work independently and demonstrate initiative to be a self-starterDemonstrated planning and organizational skillsExceptional customer-focused orientationExcellent verbal and written communication skills and a strong customer-focus orientationDemonstrated project management skills
