YOUR ROLE

This position contributes to the success of Henkel by ensuring regulatory compliance and implementing risk or prevention-focused SHE initiatives and best practices at the Mentor site. As an intern, you will gain experience at the facility level in a fast-paced adhesives manufacturing facility.

The Safety, Health, Environmental (SHE) function is responsible for leading the safety program at the site to ensure compliance to governmental (local, state, federal) regulations, and conformance to applicable Management Systems and Henkel Standards. The position will interact daily with various facility employees as it pertains to SHE programs, and drive continuous improvement initiatives related to SHE performance of the site.

  • Cultivation of Henkel's culture and values by promoting communication, teamwork, and respectful treatment of all individuals
  • Maintaining current knowledge of all applicable Environmental, Health and Safety standards, as required, and perform necessary reporting to various agencies
  • Performs, coordinates or participates in internal and external SHE assessments (i.e. PHAs, JSAs, Ergonomic Assessments, ISO, PSM) to ensure compliance with SHE Standards and regulations
  • Participates in site's Safety Committee, Green Team, coordinate site risk assessments, and train site personnel as required in SHE policies, systems and practices.
  • Helps execute site's Compliance Calendar ensuring programs, training, emergency drills and various activities are completed in a timely fashion
  • Develop and maintain SHE procedures, work instructions, and records, and conduct new hire orientation on safety policies and procedures
  • SDS review of all new raw materials entering site and new product introduction, including performance of PPE assessments and updating of grids.
  • Investigation of incidents including root cause analyses, assisting in the development of corrective actions and documentation of results in SHEcom.
  • Implementation and adherence to the standards, practices, and programs as defined in the Safety and Health Management Process
  • Process Safety Management, Culture Based Safety, and Job Safety Assessments
  • Regulatory reporting to local, state and federal agencies.

    YOUR SKILLS

    • Currently pursuing a degree in Health, Safety or Environmental Management, Sustainability or other related majors will be considered
    • Be at least 18 years old at the time you begin the internship, and be at a college sophomore level or higher
    • Proven people/project leadership throughout your academic career (on or off- campus)
    • Previous experience in an operations environment (on or off-campus; either through employment or academic clubs)
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a results-oriented, challenging environment
    • Effective coaching, facilitation, presentation and team building skills
    • Ability to give/receive constructive feedback
    • Strong chemical background is preferred
    • Knowledge of air permitting and OSHA reports preferred
    • Knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) preferred
    • Knowledge of ISO 14001, OSHAS 18001, and ISO 50001 considered a plus

      The salary for this role is $43,860 - $62,400. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Connecticut. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
