The Department of Dance in the College of Arts and Sciences at Case
Western Reserve University is accepting applications for an
Assistant or Associate Professor of Dance (tenure-track) with an
anticipated start date during the 2023-2024 academic year.
The successful candidate is an active dance artist and will need to
teach technique as well as courses from among Dance Science/Dance
Wellness, Choreography, Pedagogy, Costume Design and Construction,
Dance Appreciation and Dance History.
The technique classes offered by the department draw from 20th
century modern (Graham, Limon) yet infused with a contemporary
vision. The successful candidate will be able to teach all levels
of Modern/Contemporary dance technique classes closely aligned and
compatible with the department's biomechanical, principled, and
artistic/aesthetic approach.
Importantly, the department maintains a highly successful and
significant investment in dancer wellness as well as dance and
technology which align with the university's "" initiatives.
Ideally, the candidate would have a background in either or both of
these fields in order to actively participate and/or contribute to

The candidate should also have a body of creative work that
demonstrates commitment to dance as a performing art and be able to
choreograph and/or serve as rehearsal director for the annual
Faculty and Guest Artist concert; effectively contribute to
production oversight; competently advise both undergraduate and
graduate students; serve as faculty advisor for student clubs,
assist with student recruitment, and contribute service to the
department, college, and university. The candidate is also
committed or has experience working with a diverse population of
faculty, staff and students.
Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should demonstrate
promise for creative work/research and teaching excellence whereas
Associate Professor candidates should have established a
significant professional reputation.
Candidates must hold an MFA in Dance preferably from a 3-year
graduate program, have a pedagogical and professional profile,
advanced professional training and experience, and a minimum of 3
years of successful teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate
level.
